Under the hood

Built natively for Apple platforms.

No web views, no cross-platform frameworks. Just Apple’s own.

Apple Music & playback

Plays your catalog and library through MusicKit and ApplicationMusicPlayer. It checks the take before it plays, so an alternate never turns up in place of the master.
MPNowPlayingInfoCenter and MPRemoteCommandCenter put the controls on the Lock Screen and in Control Center, and skip works across the whole queue.
An ActivityKit Live Activity shows the section you’re in, on the Lock Screen.
AVFoundation runs the audio session. Core Haptics does the taps.

Siri & Apple Intelligence

Say “Play … in Sessionography” and the SiriKit Media Intent (INPlayMediaIntent) passes the words straight to the app, which looks them up in the whole catalog. Nothing has to be set up beforehand.
Foundation Models run a LanguageModelSession on the device to work out what you asked for. It never supplies facts about the music, and if it comes up short the app falls back to plain keyword matching.
iOS 26 IntentModes let a spoken request start playing without opening the app.

iPad, Mac, Vision Pro & CarPlay

A two-pane layout that resizes with Split View, Stage Manager, and rotation without losing your place.
Keyboard shortcuts for getting around.
CarPlay support, built as a CPTemplateApplicationScene.
Runs on Apple Silicon Macs.
A native visionOS app. The player sits in an ornament under the window, and a pin‑board widget puts a cover or a portrait on your wall.

Apple Watch & widgets

An independent watchOS app. Now Playing fits on one screen, and the progress ring dims for Always-On using isLuminanceReduced.
WidgetKit complications in rectangular, circular, and inline families.
WatchConnectivity sends the current track and its artwork over from the phone, shrunk before it goes.

Accessibility

VoiceOver reads every control, including the connections graph.
Dynamic Type everywhere, so the text follows whatever size you’ve set.
Reduce Motion turns off the animations.

Sync & privacy

SwiftData mirrors to your private CloudKit database (NSPersistentCloudKitContainer). Your playlists follow you between devices, and they come back after a reinstall.
Favorites and history sit in the iCloud key-value store. Shared setlists open in the app through Universal Links and Associated Domains.
No account, no sign-in. Just an anonymous device ID in the Keychain. What you listen to stays on your device and in your own iCloud, and never reaches a server.
UserNotifications schedules the daily notification on the device. There is no push server.

About the developer

How it started.

I’m Joe LeBlanc, a lifelong jazz enthusiast and, for twenty years, a musician in the United States Marine Corps. I’ve been building apps since 2011. Sessionography started off as a personal project with the simple goal of having an easy way to check personnel on whatever jazz track I was listening to. I quickly realized that following those connections, from one player to the next session to the next record, was an incredible way to explore jazz discography and discover new music in a way that was impossible on current platforms.
